James Freeman Clarke letters, 1846-1872.

Two autograph letters, signed, from Rev. James Freeman Clarke, dated Boston, January 9, 1846 (3 p.) and March 22, 1872 (4 p.). Both are personal letters discussing religious matters. The addressee of the 1846 letter is unidentified ("my dear sir"); Clarke entrats him to join "Mr. Wellington's church." The 1872 letter is addressed to a Dr. Wines, possibly Enoch Cobb Wines.

James Freeman Clarke (April 4, 1810 – June 8, 1888) was an American theologian and author. Born in Hanover, New Hampshire, on April 4, 1810, James Freeman Clarke was the son of Samuel Clarke and Rebecca Parker Hull, though he was raised by his grandfather James Freeman, minister at King's Chapel in Boston, Massachusetts.
